IV Women Working for the World Conference
Last January I had the privilege of participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos-Switzerland, a space that brings together the most influential figures in the world in search of meeting points to face the problems that affect us most. The words that struck me most in this space were said by Christine Lagarde, Director of the International Monetary Fund: “Gender inequality is expensive for nations. Failure to address this problem will lead to collective chaos and irreversible unsustainability. ” Such reflection and the fact that one in three women in the world have experienced violence, are the reasons that lead me to work for a more egalitarian society, where women, girls and vulnerable people have better opportunities.
For this reason, the Women Working for the World forum has been created. It has become the country’s first gender and development forum. This year, the fourth version will be held and the debate will cover key issues such as women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive rights, violence against women and girls, economic empowerment, women’s role in philanthropy, among others. In addition to giving visibility to these issues, the Forum will be a space for discussion to move from discourse to action.
The discussion will be led by world-class personalities such as the leader Musimbi Kanyoro – President of the Global Fund for Women, Miriam Zoila Pérez, Cuban-American writer and activist specialized in gender, race and LGBT rights. From Colombia we will count on the participation of figures like Jeison Aristizábal, CNN Hero 2016; Marta Elena Royo, Executive Director of Profamilia and María Victoria Riaño, President of Equión Energía.
Platforms like the Women Working for the World forum are becoming increasingly relevant in our times. True social and gender equality will become a reality when we all feel part of this debate. We look forward to your presence so we can work together on this mission. See you there!
